Một Hai Ba Dô: What It Means and Why We Named Our Brand After It
If you've ever sat at a table with a Vietnamese family or a group of Vietnamese friends anywhere, honestly, you've probably heard it before someone drinks: "Một! Hai! Ba! Dô!" One, two, three, cheers. It's shouted, not said quietly, and it lands right before glasses meet or a round goes down together. It's less a toast in the formal sense and more a countdown — a way of making sure nobody drinks alone.
The Literal Meaning
Một — one
Hai — two
Ba — three
Dô — the call to drink, roughly "cheers" or "go," pronounced like "yo"
Put together, it's the rhythm of a group counting down before drinking as one. You'll hear it at family dinners, at bia hơi tables on a Saigon sidewalk, at weddings, at karaoke nights — anywhere people are drinking together rather than just drinking.
Why It's Different From "Cheers"
A Western "cheers" is often a quiet clink, sometimes just a nod. Một Hai Ba Dô is built to be loud and communal — the whole point is that everyone drinks on the same beat. Nobody's holding a glass alone while everyone else has already taken a sip. It's a small ritual, but it says something bigger: drinking, in Vietnamese culture, is rarely a solo act. It's something done at the center of a table, with people, on purpose.
Why We Named Our Brand Dô
In Vietnamese drinking culture, you don't sip in isolation. Every round starts with a shared glass, a raised toast, and a room full of energy. The word Dô (pronounced “Yo”) is the soul of the moment—literally translating to "In!" or "Pour it in!" It is the green light to celebrate, clear the table of friction, and welcome everyone to the night.
Around the world, you hear Kanpai, Geonbae, or Cheers. But in Vietnam, it’s a rhythmic, infectious rallying cry: “Một, Hai, Ba, Dô!” (One, Two, Three, Cheers!). We took that spirit and translated it for the modern table into a simple ethos: MỘT, HAI, BA, DÔ IT!
What This Means for How We Built the Brand
Everything about Dô is built around that same idea — that a drink is better at the center of a table than off to the side. That's the "why" behind putting real Asian fruit into these cans instead of a flavor packet or syrup, and it's the same reason food pairing is baked into how we talk about every flavor: this was never meant to be a drink you have by yourself. It's meant for the table.
